Plumicast is a weather app that turns the forecast into a short list of layers to put on. It is built to need as little of your data as possible, and to keep what it does need on your device.
If you grant location permission, Plumicast reads your current coordinates so it can request the forecast for where you are. Coordinates are sent to the weather providers listed below only to return a forecast for that point, and are not stored on any Plumicast servers. You can use the app without sharing your location by searching for a place instead.
Plumicast asks for location permission at two levels:
The places you save, the mode you pick (Casual or Active), the period of day (Morning, Afternoon, Evening, or All Day), your temperature sensitivity, style profile, dismissed items, units, and time format are stored locally on your device through the operating system's standard storage APIs (AsyncStorage and secure keychain storage). None of this is uploaded to us. Uninstalling Plumicast removes this data.
Plumicast also caches recent forecast responses on device so the app opens instantly and the widgets have something to show when the network is slow.
To show weather in the iOS widget, Plumicast writes a small payload (your current location name, the latest forecast summary, the outfit recommendation, and your Pro status) to a shared container between the app and the widget extension. This container lives entirely on your device inside the Plumicast App Group and is not accessible to other apps.
Plumicast Pro is purchased through the Apple App Store or Android Play Store and is a monthly subscription, or a yearly subscription. Apple/Google handles payment and sends Plumicast a receipt so the app can confirm your entitlement. We never see your payment details, Apple ID, or billing address. Your entitlement is cached locally (purchase date in encrypted keychain storage, tier cache in local app storage) so the app can keep your Pro features unlocked offline. Plumicast does not use any third party subscription platform such as RevenueCat or Superwall.
Plumicast uses Apple WeatherKit as its weather source on iOS. The coordinates (or place name you searched) are sent through a native system service on your device to fetch the forecast. Use of Apple WeatherKit is governed by Apple's own privacy terms: apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/weather.
Place name search on iOS is performed on device through Apple MapKit, so most searches never leave your phone.
Plumicast is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
If we add features that change how data is handled, we will update this page and bump the "last updated" date above.
